If you ask us there’s nothing like the anticipation of Demoulding a fresh batch of hand poured candles and seeing your amazing creations.
But during the setting period there’s the questions! Did i pour the wax at the right temperature? Should i have used a silicone release spray? Will the wax need topping up? Here we will breakdown some of the most frequently asked questions to help put your mind at ease
Did i pour at the right temperature?
Always check your wax suppliers instructions on pouring temperature, some may recommend pouring between a certain temperature range such a Kerasoya Pillar wax who recommend pouring between 55 - 65C, This is where a candle makers favourite phrase comes into play “Trial and error” you may get your best results at 59C maybe even 61C, Testing is the best way to find your best formula.
Do i need a silicone release spray?
In short the answer is no, It is not a necessity to use a mould release spray they can help on more difficult moulds of course but you can still get the same results without a spray
Will i need to top up the wax?
Maybe, Some waxes tend to shrink after they are poured while other only need one pour, Always read your wax suppliers instructions for best results
How do i get my candle out of my acrylic mould?
Acrylic moulds are great for candle making and some of the most popular moulds, The best way to demould you candle is to leave you candle wick a little bit longer to allow you to gently pull your finished candle out.
An alternative method which we love to do is once your candle is set put the mould in the freezer for 20 minutes once to take it out give it a gentle tap on a flat surface and the candle will slip straight out
The best way to demould a silicone mould?
This all depends on the shape,size etc but the most common way to demould a silicone mould would be to start with the outer mould gently pull it away from the candle, once you have done all sides gently roll downwards to release your candle
